Objectives for Performance Task

After completing this task, students will be able to
  • Find the average velocity of an object, given its position as a function of time
  • Use the concept of limits to describe how the average velocity can be used to approximate the instantaneous velocity
  • Relate the concepts of average and instantaneous velocity to the secant and tangent line ideas used to define the derivative
  • Use the derivative of the position function to find the instantaneous velocity of an object
  • Use the derivative of the velocity function to find the instantaneous acceleration of an object
  • Explain what these different functions mean in terms of the rate of change of one variable with respect to another
